Approach
FLAPPFLAPP partners all over Europe have provided practical examples on flood management. Based on these experiences, members of the FLAPP network analysed what obstacles and challenges have to be faced in practice, when sustainable flood management policies and measures are developed and applied across-borders on a regional and local scale. This analysis can be found in the so-called joint approach to cross-border flood management.

Thematical working groups carried out inventory studies and expert meetings leading to a range of valuable sub-products. The available theoretical and practical know-how within the FLAPP network has formed a thorough basis to formulate policy recommendations addressing different levels of government. Discussions between members of the FLAPP network took place during a variety of events and through individual contacts.

"‘It was interesting to see the levels of communications between the rivers Agency and the Electricity Supply Board. The two jurisdictions co-operated well on this project for such a long time already. This is a good example of crossborder communications ongoing in Ireland. The fact that there are so many different organisations responsible for separate aspects of water management can make communications"
