Future exchange

FLAPP

Based on contact between experts across Europe establishen through activities, several partner organisations are planning to continue to cooperate in future projects. For example, to connect theory and practice in flood managment a 'European Centre of Excellence for flood managment' will be created by the Flood Protection Centre in Cologne. Another idea is to set up pilot projects in different river basins in Europe to exchange experciences on the implementation of the new EU flood directive in relation to other EU regulations in the field of substainable water managment. The new funding period 2007-2013 under the EU programme for Territoiral Cooperation might allow these initiatives to be realised.

Are you interested in new EU projects dealing with flood management?
Ideas for future EU projects related to flood management were explored by FLAPP partners in a brainstorm session during the 4th FLAPP conference on Friday 27 October ´06 in Debrecen, Hungary.

In the first half of 2007 the initiators will work out the ideas in further detail and new partners will be searched for. The project proposals and potential partnerships will be presented during the final FLAPP conference on 13-14 June 2007 in Zaragoza (Spain).

"‘What I found most interesting during this activity was to learn that fl ood and sedimentation problems of the city Leuven are being solved together. Sedimentation and erosion processes also play an important role in many Saxon watercourses. It was interesting to see a practical solution for that problem.’"

André Freiwald
